Parkland County Area Rotary Clubs
The Rotary Club of Stony Plain (chartered in 1986), the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove (1993) and the Rotary Club of Parkland After Dark (2010) have united to promote the annual RRFL. These clubs sponsor local parks, recycling centres, libraries, food banks, Neighborlink, Interact clubs (a high school version of Rotary), youth programs etc. as well as international programs to alleviate poverty, disease (e.g. polio), disasters and improve education and health in third world countries. Rotary's motto "Service above Self" fits will with the promotion of suicide awareness and good mental health - the beneficiaries of this Run.
Simon Poultney Foundation - Coordinated Suicide Prevention Program
The Coordinated Suicide Prevention Program's mandate is to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the suicide of all ages in all groups through creative, ongoing programming in the Parkland County Region. Alberta has one of the highest suicide rates in Canada. In 1998 a group of concerned individuals formed the CSPP to address the issues of suicide prevention and awareness in the area. CSPP has promoted awareness through ongoing presentations to schools and agencies, coordinating public awareness campaigns, and providing reference material and referrals to people in need.
